What People Say About For Glory"I read For Glory from cover to cover in very short order. Not that it’s a simplistic, zip-through-it read, far from it, but because it is that entertaining. ... I read one review on Amazon.com that marked the book down a couple stars for beingtoo humorous - that reviewer felt it detracted from a book in the murder/mystery book genre. But I disagree. I found it uniquely refreshing. "There is so much comedy in this book that I can't call it a true mystery. I believe that is part of its charm. The style of writing that Elisabeth Lee has keeps the readers attention along with entertaining you. It was nice to read of a character who is strong and feisty but about 50ish years old instead of the traditional sex kitten in her 20s. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it as an easy, fun read." "A great read. Should definitely be on your 'want to read' list." "Although For Glory can be classified as a mystery, it is more of a comedy. Lyle often takes on the persona of a mix between Jackie Chan and Clint Eastwood, taking down men twice her size and walking away with a tough guy bravado, showing no fear. As a twenty-five year old, I’m not Lee’s target audience; however, I think all of my aunts would enjoy the spunky, sexy, and strong attitude of the 50-something Lyle. For Glory is easy to read and entertaining. The ending may even cause you to go out and buy the sequel, Flashes of Glory." "This one gets six stars. It was a completely different premise from any other mystery I've ever read and the characters were very intriguing. Lyle Hudson seems to be the anti-Stephanie Plum, for sure. This was a bit lengthy for me, but it was a nice read with a surprise ending that really was a surprise!" "I was apprehensive when asked to review For Glory by Elisabeth Lee which centers around a fifty something protagonist. I’m on the wrong side of twenty five myself, but wasn’t sure that I wanted to read about a female detective you may remind me more of my mother than someone I could identify with. But if Carlyle Hudson is any indication of a middle aged detective, bring it on. Lyle Hudson, is confident, desirable, and smart." "Lee's gift is writing strong characters, and that includes the little dog, Glory! Lyle is full of spunk with a lot of attitude, and you soon see that all of the Hudson women (Lyle and her three aunts, Luce, Loretta and Lenore) are quite a hilarious bunch." (read full review) "Great! From first page to last. The tone -- hip, post-modern, far-out -- never misses a beat. There is a requisite dollop of sex, lots of wonderful characterizations, and just plain intelligent asides throughout." "I thoroughly enjoyed [For Glory]. Almost immediately after I began reading, the characters really came alive. Once I had finished the book, I truly felt as though I had spent time with Glory, Lyle and her friends and family. It wasn't just the story that held my interest, it was 'spending time' with the characters. I did not want the book to end and I hope there will be more installments." "WOW! I'm impressed . . . But what do I know? I'm just a person who reads. Lyle held me captive. How is it that this sassy female managed to meet so many good looking guys?" "I was really involved with Lyle and her aunts and men. I could not put the book down and can't wait for the sequel!" "Instead of 20 or 30-year old protagonists, this 50-something woman, active and sexy and bold, will make you laugh out loud." "Lyle demonstrates that 50 is the new 30. The suspense and action of For Glory will appeal to men as well as women." "It's been quite a while since I've read anything that flows so smoothly, catches the reader up so intensely and ends so satisfactorily. It is an excellent read...." "I just finished the book. It is really good. I did not want to put it down. This is the reason that I have not accomplished much this weekend!" “Carlyle Hudson has a wry outlook on life.... It’s often a witty, dry, subtle humor.” Mindie Padget, Lawrence Journal World |
